The Police fue una de las bandas más importantes del rock de fines de la década de 1970 y comienzos de la de 1980. Su estilo musical estuvo marcado por influencias del rock, reggae y jazz. Se formó el año 1977 en Londres, tocaron oficialmente hasta 1986, con un hiato entre marzo de 1984 hasta julio de 1986 y nunca emitieron un comunicado sobre su disolución. La formación habitual del grupo incluyó a Sting, voz y bajo; Andy Summers, guitarra y coros y Stewart Copeland, batería y coros.
